What is the WER on the current window?

Our previous window glazed, with Pilkington K glass and a aluminium spacer bar is only rated an E, although this meets the current requirements for Building Regulations, in 2010 this type of double grazed unit/window will not conform to the new standard required.

How do we get a C, B and A rated window?

Use a warm edge spacer bar system

Use argon or krypton gas

Use more thermally efficient glass

Warm edge spacer bar system

Warm edge spacer is a generic term for any spacer bar that has a better thermal performance than a highly conductive aluminum spacer. The warm edge spacer acts as a thermal barrier helping to reduce heat loss through the unit. After researching the market and looking at different alternatives, from composite materials in bar length to TPS we decided to go for Super Spacer Bar, which is a dual seal system made from 100% pre-desiccated structural foam.

The main properties of Super Spacer Bar are

Contains no metal

Integral 3A desiccant

Extremely durable and flexible

Allows for expansion and contraction

Excellent UV resistance

Excellent thermal resistance (-51c – 127c)

Excellent resistance to nitrogen and argon gas absorption

Applied in a continuous length with only one joint
